Station masters threaten strike on May 31; train operations may be hit

Train services are likely to be affected on May 31 (Tuesday) as All India Station Masters Association (AISMA) has threatened to go on strike.

AISMA office-bearers said they have been urging the railways to fill vacant posts of station masters

restore night-duty allowance, ensure better wages and promotions, security and stress allowance for the past two years, but received no response.

As per the central council meeting held in New Delhi in March, all station masters will avail leave on May 31. 

A strike notice has already been served on the chairman and CEO of the railway board and general managers of zonal railways,” said BM Jayanna, of AISMA (SWR zone) said.

In SWR zone alone, he said, there are 1,503 sanctioned posts of station masters but only 1,240 staff are available

“While the number of vacancies in Bengaluru division is 77, it is 68 in Mysuru division and 118 in Hubballi.
