IPL 2022: Here’s Why CSK And GT Players Are Wearing Black Armbands

Fans observed both CSK and GT players wearing black armbands during the encounter

The reason for that is that both the teams are paying a tribute to the deceased Andre Symonds

who passed away in a tragic car accident on Sunday morning in Queensland.

Hence the players of both the teams made this gesture – of sporting a black armband – in memory of the legendary all-rounder

Symonds was 46 and was involved in an accident outside Townsville where he lived in retirement. The Queensland police pronounced him dead on the accident spot.

Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash in Hervey Range, around 50 kilometres from Townsville that’s taken the life of a 46-year-old man last night

Early information indicates, shortly after 11pm the car was being driven on Hervey Range Road, near Alice River Bridge when it left the roadway and rolled, the police statement said.

Emergency services attempted to revive the 46-year-old driver and sole occupant, however, he died of his injuries.

Born in Birmingham and raised there by Australian parents, Andrew Symonds declined England’s offer to play for them and decided to play for Australia

he featured in 26 Tests, 198 ODIs and 14 T20Is in an international career spanning from 1998 to 2009
